Muscat: Muscat Municipality signed a contract to implement the al Nuzha Street dualisation project in South Mabela, Wilayat of Seeb, in a strategic step aimed at upgrading the road network and enhancing infrastructure efficiency in line with rapid urban expansion in the governorate.
The contract was signed by Eng. Ahmed bin Said al Amri, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, with the executing company for the project.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin during June, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, enhance traffic flow, and raise road safety standards for users.
The project includes the construction of an 11-kilometre dual carriageway equipped with additional lanes to accommodate increasing traffic volumes, along with 3.5 kilometres of service roads to serve adjacent residential areas and facilities and improve accessibility.
It also comprises the establishment of six major intersections fitted with modern smart traffic signal systems, aimed at regulating traffic movement, reducing waiting times, and improving overall mobility and safety.
In addition, the project features an integrated stormwater drainage system, including multi-cell box culverts and side drainage channels to improve resilience during adverse weather conditions and enhance surface water management efficiency. Modern energy-efficient street lighting systems will also be installed.
Officials said the project is part of Muscat Municipality’s broader efforts to develop a sustainable road network capable of meeting urban and population growth, particularly in high-density residential and service areas.
The initiative is also based on comprehensive traffic studies conducted to develop strategic and long-term solutions to current and future congestion challenges, while improving connectivity between residential, commercial, and service zones.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, serve surrounding neighbourhoods and key developments, enhance drainage capacity, and strengthen the overall efficiency and safety of the road infrastructure in the area.
